Our lambs are raised on legume-improved grass pastures with ample shelter and easy access to shade and fresh water. Our pastures are carefully managed to ensure high quality nutrition for the animals and protection from over-grazing for the plants. In the depths of winter, when pasture is in short supply, the lambs are fed nutritious alfalfa hay. As we improve our pastures we expect to be able to graze year-round.
At Green Dirt Farm our methods are based in the organic tradition, although we are not certified organic (please feel free to ask us about this.) We continuously ask ourselves if each aspect of our farming practice upholds the highest standards for protecting the environment. In particular we believe that a foundation of healthy soil is the key
to growing nutritious grass, happy animals, and satisfied customers.
Feel free to come and visit the farm to see for yourself how we do things. We offer tours by special arrangement. Click here to find out how to schedule a tour: Green Dirt Tours
We know that you will find that our grass-fed lamb is of unsurpassed quality, tenderness and flavor and would be ideal for any meal. There is no comparison with conventional lamb!
In addition to benefiting the health of our planet, eating the products of pasture-based farms has numerous health benefits for individuals. Grass-fed lamb has been shown to have lower overall fat, higher "good" fats (omega-3 fatty acids, CLA, and TVA), higher anti-oxidants (lutein in grass-fed lamb,) and higher concentrations of vitamins and minerals.
