Sweet and Savory Cheese Balls

Use Green Dirt Farm's fresh sheep cheese for this sweet and savory cheese ball recipe.

The classic cheese ball: an oldie but a goodie, and our Fresh sheep’s milk cheese is an easy way to take it to the next level. We couldn’t decide between sweet and savory, so we included fun and delicious recipes for both! Both recipes use our Fresh plain spreadable cheese, which is great for doctoring up however you like. But if you are looking for something even easier to serve at your holiday party, just grab one of our already flavored Fresh cheeses like Garlic Herb, Rosemary, Garlic Peppercorn, Nettle or Spicy Chilis.

Fresh Cheese Ball with Cranberries and Pecans

Ingredients:

  • 8 ounces GDF Fresh Plain sheep’s milk cheese
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • one teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3 tablespoons honey
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped pecans (unsalted)
  • 1 cup diced dried cranberries
  • 4 sprigs of rosemary, leaves finely chopped (If you’re not a fan of rosemary, you can substitute with 1/2 cup of minced flat leaf parsley for a milder flavor).
  • pinch of coarse salt like Maldon

Directions:

Beat together the sheep’s milk cheese, cream cheese, cinnamon and honey until smooth. Fold in 1/2 cup of pecans. Roll mixture together in one ball or lots of small balls using a one ounce scoop. (We like the bite size balls for maximum fruit and nut action!) It’s easiest to roll the mixture when it’s cold so pop it in the fridge for a bit first if you need to.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Mix together the remaining pecans, cranberries, rosemary and salt and spread out on the parchment paper. Roll the balls through the mixture until thoroughly coated on all sides. Refrigerate until ready to serve. Serve with crackers, graham crackers or toasted baguette.
